SNS 088: Being Cheerful in Trials, Psalm 60

Can I say that all who think Christianity is all roses and lollipops, you know, the thinking that “God only wants you to be happy,

healthy, wealthy, and prosperous if you just have enough faith” probably aren’t exactly right?

All you have to do is read a psalm or two to know this isn’t so. Take this psalm, for instance, which is Psalm 60; we find something much more profound than happy, healthy, wealthy happening…. Ahhh, let’s first hear the psalm. Then we’ll chat about it.

But, for now, my name is Charles, Charles Yerkes, and this is Psalm Tuesday here on the Simple Not Shallow Podcast. This podcast is for those who want a deeper faith and not an aggressively mediocre one. Psalm Tuesday is a series in which we will listen to a psalm being read in a manner that honors their original use as part of a worship service. Here in episode #88, we are listening to Psalm 60.

So, grab yourself some coffee, and let’s get started.

Scripture Passages referenced:

Psalm 60

John 16:33 ~ Be cheerful because Jesus has overcome the world.
Psalm 23 ~ The valley of the shadow of darkness and death.

Today’s Psalm is read form our Book:
